Polcore® is recycled polystyrene – an alternative picture moulding material. Polcore® mouldings have a constant, clean finish and are easy to cut and join. Polcore® picture frame mouldings can be purchased in individual lengths or in boxed quantities. Box quantities vary due to the size of each moulding. All Polcore® lengths are 2.9 metres. Sample pieces of Polcore® are available for you to try before making a purchase.

Cutting

Polcore® can be cut using a mitre guillotine taking more bites through the moulding than with wood. Very sharp blades should be used at all times. We can help you to maintain blade performance with our Morsø blade sharpening service.

Circular saws can also be used. We recommend that the blades move quickly through the moulding to reduce any heat build up. Your blade supplier can provide specialist blades for cutting Polcore® picture frame mouldings.

Joining

Although many Framers do not glue Polcore® we recommend the use of our Polcore® glue, a cyanoacrylate adhesive. This will ensure a secure joint.

The only difference between Polcore® and wood mouldings is the positioning of the wedges. We recommend placing the wedges closer to the rebate area of the picture frame moulding avoiding the back edge.
